Lac-Mate

Presented in "All in 2$". Lac-Mate is a game of chess where the pieces are made from bottles of nail-varnish purchased at the cheap pop-art stores of south Tel-Aviv, where our studio is situated.

The Lac-Mate game was created in response to the surroundings in which we live and work. We chose as our raw material to relate to the mass, the multiplicity, and the design-noise in the region. The product represents our attraction-rejection response to low quality products where the kitsch is ridiculous but the low prices and endless variety are very attractive.

We projected the hierarchy of the chess game onto an eclectic collection of products, creating a system from objects that were not designed be organized into any form of order. The product creates a confrontation between the intelligent game of kings associated with the masculine universe, and the act of painting nails with nail-varnish, which is perceived as a feminine, superficial and external pastime.
